Question Cub 2135 Starting Problem

I have a Cub Cadet 2135 that no longer turns over. The battery has power since the headlights and and the gauge lights on the dash work. I replaced the key switch two years ago and recently when starting it, sometimes it would turnover and other times it would not. When that happened, I would turn the key on and off repeatedly and eventually it would connect and start.

From the research online it seems like it could be a safety kill switch, starter, solenoid, or a loose wire connection somewhere. I was hoping this forum might have some suggestions on how to go about testing and fixing.

Thanks!

Michael

I had a 2135 a few years back, with the same symptoms. It ended up being the safety switch under the seat. I jumpered the leads together....problem solved!

Heres a start to your problem. If its turning over, all the safety switches are working. That my friend is 90% of the problem. All thats left is air fuel and compresion, them the easy stuff.

Check your choke plate, I have one here in the junk pile that has the same problem. If you hold your hand over the carb it will start and run all day.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
