JD vs Cub Kohler Block
What is the different between a K241 block made for a JD vs a Cub Cadet if any?
I have one that I was going to rebuild but its already +3, so I'm looking for a new one rather than resleave. |

As far as I know the only thing you would have to change is the oil pan.

Most of the JD blocks are wide base, IIRC, so they would not fit in a NF without mods.
Have you tried putting in a want ad for a rebuildable correct block? I've heard some of the parts guys have been scrapping 10 hp blocks due to lack of demand. I'm sure you could find a reasonably-priced one if you tried. |

Like Matt said, a Want Ad might get you a block. I would have no problem using a sleeved block. Nothing wrong with being taken back down to standard size bore.

I was just guessing that the cost of sleeving would make a different block a more affordable option.

And if you do find another block to use, don't junk your 0.030" over one...there is a finite and ever-shrinking number of these engines available to rebuild, and that one can still be saved.

looking at the pictures of a couple k241 blocks on ebay, I think I see the difference between the blocks as Matt pointed out.
The Non-Cub blocks have cast "brackets" at the bottom with mounting holes on the carb and Starter sides of the block, where the Cub blocks don't. ----------------- Sorry about posting in the wrong place originally, as usual you guys are the best! |

My only wish was that I got the Cub Cadet bug, before my father passed and I got his 102. He worked in the Engine Division at Kohler for 36 years as an manufacturing engineer. I never did learn enough from him while growing up. |

Ditto. I feel like hoarding any AMC/AMC era Jeep (or anything 'old that shouldn't be there')I see in the junkyard. My wallet is too small, my yard is too small, and my wife would be ticked if I did such a thing.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
