The battery idea came from OCC thread or on line research can't remember which Matt may be right about fooling the charger. I just hooked the leads from the charger to the battery and the leads from the battery to the tank. The charger would still cycle on and off once and a while. I usually left each part in about 24 hours. Seemed to work for my system. Sometimes I would remove and hand wire brush at the 12 hour mark. Then put back in the tank. I think the parts you did look pretty good. These are cast iron parts and may clean up different than mild steel parts. Yes surface rust can and will reform on the surface. I aggressively wire brushed the surfaces after coming out of the tank. Most of my parts were painted soon after cleaning too. Looks to me your system is working well. I think the black oxidation turns to the red. I understand they are different types. I just used a wire brush until I did the pulley from the tiller. Put a wire cup in my cordless and promptly killed the battery. I need to get the wire disk on my bench grinder to do it better then I'll post pictures. I'm sure I didn't clean them enough after coming out. I'll be starting on the rest of the parts now that I have a clue what I'm doing. Administrators, I believe I put this thread in the wrong place. Perhaps it should be moved to "Restoration Tips". When I started it I was hopeful someone would benefit from my learning experience. Sorry for the Newbie mistake. Curtis

The black stuff is a byproduct of the electrolysis process, not rust. As Chris said, rust will form just about immediately unless the humidity is low. Parts need to be oiled or primed ASAP after cleaning to prevent that.

I forgot the picture. It's in primer now but it came out fantastic. Another picture with it and stuff in Rust-oleum white primer and waiting for paint.
I did a search here and didn't get much info. I did it again and auto complete shows I had misspelled "electrolysis". Someone had even mentioned a drum in a drum. Anyway, it's up and working. Thanks everyone. Curtis

The parts in primer look super! The drum in a drum must be working well for your parts cleaning. I know this doesn't compare to sandblasting but is a farily effective way to loosen the rust on these types of parts. Thanks for posting. Nice to see another tiller coming together! Regards, Chris
