Default 1862?????

I just swapped out my 1811 front axle for an 1862 axle and noticed that the approach to the tractor was different. On the 1811 axle there was fore/aft adjustment available with screws on both sides of the axle, which I had to remove to fit the 1862 axle, and there was a grease fitting on the center pivot bolt. On the 1862 there was none of these things even though they were very similar in many other ways. Also the wheels on the 1811 were bolted on with3/8 inch bolts and the 1862 were bolted on with 1/2 bolts. The tie rod also is beefier on the 1862 as well as the ball joints, 3/8 vs 1/2 inch. So it seems that some things were better but others were not as good. The 1862 did come with power steering so that explains the beefier items but what about the grease fitting and the axle adjustment? Were they made by different companies or during different times?

Are you absolutely certain there isn't (and never was) a grease fitting? I'm pretty sure there was one there from the factory. The 1862 has those adjuster bolts as well, but the tabs are mounted differently to the frame so the axle clears. They aren't really needed anyway...if the axle is sloppy, the pivot bolts needs tightening. Obviously they were made at different times, as the 1811 was made until 1989 (using the same axle that was used since the 1x8/9 series) and the 1862 was made starting in 1990.

I don't recall any of my cyclopes axles having actual grease fittings. They do have a small hole though. A needle tip will work on them. I have just drilled the hole bigger put a "tap" in grease fitting in them.

As Matt said previously And I tried to explain to no end in the other thread the axle snubbers are on both series. The cyclops are mounted outside the axle channel so there is room for the axle.

Default Grease fitting

You guys were right and I found the grease fitting. It was on the bottom of the axle directly under the pivot bolt. I cannot find any place to reattach the fore/aft adjustment screws so I am going to leave them off. I looked on the front and back of the axle to find a solid flat surface for the screws to slide on and there doesn't seem to be one. This axle has more up and down travel than my 1811 axle did. That would make it harder for the screws to maintain contact with the axle surface during rough terrain. It also appears that this 1862 axle has a sharper turning capability than the old one. That will come in handy. I'm waiting on the ram and hoses from Patton's and as soon as I get them I will post some pictures of the hydraulic hose/line mess. I'm counting on some of you to help me decide which way to go with the mod. I see why CC went with hard lines in the tranny/fan area and switching to a hose is not an option in that area. There are a couple of smaller lines that could be changed to hoses though.
