Hey everyone. I ran across a yellow 682 yesterday. I have never seen a yellow 82 series before and I was wondering if it was some rare variation. I Have wanted a 82 series for a while now but they are pretty sparse around here.
I think the 682 has a manual lift, correct? Also it looked like the rear end was pulled for some reason, are there any well-know problems for these? I really don't know if its for sale of not, I am going to talk to the lady Thursday about it so I want to know everything about it before I make her an offer. what would be a good price for a yellow 682?

The yellow 682's are MTD built and built for non-IH dealerships. They still painted them red for IH dealerships after the sellout to MTD until 1985. They are the same tractor as the red ones. I personally would paint it red if I got it but that's just me
. They are good tractors. They have the aluminum rear end for sure which could be why its pulled. They have a tendency to come loose at the frame and cause issues. Even if its broke, cast iron rear ends with non-ported pumps seem to be dime-a-dozen to throw in it. Good price? I don't know... $300 needing work, $500+ running and operational. Note the + sign after the $500 as they can go double that sometimes running. Just my .02 on it.

The early CCC 82 series used cast iron parts from IH until they ran out - check the SN.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
