Lincoln 7018 is so much better, I threw away 10# of Hobart 7018.
Dry rods make all the difference, a box with a regular light bulb works great for keeping welding rods dry.

Sprayed some paint this weekend!



I am impressed with the glassy shine!!



Valspar paint, naphtha thinner and hardener. Thank you TSC!!

I hate all the pre-paint prep work, but it sure looks nice after.

I think this is going to be my best looking work tractor.

The frame is done, the "parts" pic is just the "primer" coat, more paint later this week.

I drained the hydro, no strange contents/sludge!!



The oil was a greenish color.

The rims that were on the tractor are so rusty you could put your hand through the valve stem hole!!

AND the tires stayed up enough to load it on the trailer!!

What's up with your front axle?

That looks like a late model axle... on a 1450???

That explains why you have a slotted front end.

Both my 1450s have the regular rod connecting the knuckles, not 2-piece idler setup like that.

Yea.... what's up with the front axle? My 1650 clocks in at a '78 and the frame has the slots but my axle looks like every other QL axle I've seen. Nice work BTW... I'm working through the mechanical aspects of my 1650 and plan to do a full restore in the near future.
