Hi all, new member from SE Michigan. I mow about 4 acres of it with an old craftsman gt5000 with a 48'' deck. Every winter and summer, I've watched my neighbor across the street, blow snow over the roof of his house, and mow the field adjacent to his place, with an old cub cadet "square fender". Tired of the craftsman, I found and picked up a 1964 model 100. I wish I would have done it years ago. They really are like little tractors. Since then I've mowed weeds well over the hood, graded the driveway, rolled out the gofer mounds, and tried to pull everything with a hitch on it around the property. When I got her, all 4 tires were flat, the battery was connected backwards, the mower deck and linkages were in pieces with all the pins/belts missing in action, and the blades off. I was able to get it running in an afternoon, with a new battery, carb removal/cleaning, new plug, tank flush and fresh fuel, and a little cleaning of the points. Unfortunately, the deck is Too small to try to mow what I need to cut.
Completely impressed by the 100, I went ahead and took the plunge on a new GTX2100 with a fabricated 54'' deck. There are some differences, but theres are many similarities too. I am in no way dis-appointed with either machine, and look forward to a great experience with my two boys restoring the old gal. Heres some pics of my machines...... |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
