I think the formability required to make coat hangers FAST results in the selection of a steel that has a relatively low melting temp.

That would make it perfect for gas welding filler metal!!

Yeah, but for cast iron? If I was going to do that, I'd want to use something that was actually meant for welding cast iron.

I had that happen on a manual transmission.

I just changed the front housing, including the bearing!!

That bearing looked like no fun to change.


And it was less to paint!

I got the valves out today. Didn’t quite have the right kind of valve spring compressor, as seen on YouTube. But with a little bit of effort I got them out. Started to get the set screws out of the pto after soaking them in PB for a couple days. Most of them came out ok but the last two I’m pretty sure are stripped. Bummer.

Now what? ……………………..Am I at the point of taking it to the shop for the rest of the tear down, and cylinder and crank work?
