Happiness is...
Hapiness is after a mowing session with the 2084 today in 90+ temps it never missed a beat and when I parked it in the garage and checked later no oil puddles. That is after replacing the valve covers that were both cracked, Replaced the breather filter and gasket and to finish off replaced both front and rear seals. Oh yea hapiness is no oil on the floor.

All my fixes were needed. I was getting a leak from the breather because one of the bolts was only finger tight and inside the little filter was in shreds. The valve covers were the old style sealed with permatex and the replacements are sealed with a new style gasket. My rear seal was a real problem. First of all the cavity where the oil seal goes is quite deep and my seal was able to move back and forth on the shaft. At one point it would not leak and it caused me to think something else was wrong but could not figure out what. When we replaced the rear oil seal we looked at the Kohler manual online and it said to only mount the oil seal flush and to coat the metal outside with a sealant. The new seal fit much tighter than the one that nearly fell out on disassembly. The front seal was still good but while the engine was out and the cost of a new one so inexpensive it got replaced too.
