Not so Happy
Yesterday I went to move the 2084 out of the garage and it will not start. It turns over real good but will not fire. I had mowed for over an hour on Thursday and all worked very well. Eric and I did some trouble shooting and here is what we found. Both spark plugs have good spark but are dry. Checked gas tank and there is fuel. Checked the fuel shut offs and they are open. Removed the fuel line at the little fuel pump and got fuel there. Removed the fuel line going to the carb and got fuel there too so we presume the pump is working. We tried to blow through the line going to the carb but could not blow through it. We sprayed a little gas directly into the carb and the engine fired and ran a few seconds. After a search of the maint manual There is a fuel shutoff solonoid that is supposed to shut off the fuel when the ignition switch is turned off. Could this be my problem or is it something inside the carb like a needle valve stuck shut. Man just when I thought all was well with this tractor this problem shows up. Anyone have an idea what may be the problem.

Check and see if you have power to the fuel shut off solenoid on the carb. If you do then remove the solenoid and test it to see if it retracts when you apply 12 volts to it. If it doesn’t then you can replace it or you can cut the plunger off and put it back on to get running. Not a big job to remove the carb to work on them, ask me how I know. I have a good carb off a CH22 if you need one. PM me with your phone # if you need anymore help.

I think you problem is the fuel shutoff solenoid. On the ones I've seen, the threads are ground - so if you pull it out to test, you will need to ground it to complete the circuit. The one I had trouble with turned out not to be the solenoid, but crud built-up into which the plunger seated on the carb body. Somehow on reassembly, I noticed it was sticky and that was causing the plunger not to retract. After a little cleaning, all was good.
Good luck, Bill

Back to happy now. Thanks Sam and Bill. Got in under the shroud yesterday and found the wire from the solonoid had come apart at the connection and of course came into contact with the flywheel fan. Had to replace the connection and tape real good and added two more bundle ties to secure the wires to the intake manifold and now am back in business. Apparently when we had the engine out we must have loosened that connection enough for it to work apart. I did not even know there was a connection there so did not think to look and check before reassembly. Oh well alls well that ends well. Got it all buttoned back up and she purrs like a kitten, albeit a really big kitten. Thanks again. Think I'll have a super day today.

Mowed for over an hour this afternoon and all is well. The purr of a kitten turns into a roar of a lion when mowing. Thanks again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
