Default Original Rear

I opened it and had a mix of clear water and polluted hytran. It was quite a bit of water. Straight milky hytran by the time I got the camera. It was stored outside for years before I got it and I had it outside about a year also. It will not live outside anymore - hopefully. I don't see where the water entered. Is there a common problem that needs sealed? Any ideas how to proceed with the water issue? Also, other than chipped teeth, is there anything I should check or do while it's opened?

Just clean it out real good with some brake cleaner and put in new hytran and then keep it inside. Don't forget there will be a lot of fluid up in the axle housings on each side. Either pull the axles and get the fluid out or do as I did and tip the tractor up and let the fluid drain from each side into the main gear area and clean that out.

Thanks again DWayne. It had well over a pint of clear water. Likely about a quart. Had some sludge in the bottom but no metal flakes to speak of. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the first change. I'll also tip it and let it be at that unless I get water from them.

I got it running when I first got it but left it set till I could go through it - thinking a winter project.

Thats what I did with the 71, raise the front and let drain a day or so. I think I used diesel fuel in a windex bottel to clean out sludge, ect. . Someone here said they use a rubber boot over the shifter covering any chance of water getting in through the shifter.

Looks like mine too! Man is that stuff stinky too ...eau de Harvester.

I took my housings down to the coin op car wash and blasted it out, undoubtedly violating 300 environmental regulations in the process, but it worked well.

If they have a selection for Engine degrease, I take that as a green light for parts wash.. They always look at me a little funny when I put a face shield on at the car wash.

Thanks guys. I was just fixin' to tilt it sideways. So I tilt from the front? Huh! That would be faster than one side at a time. I'll get the front up as high as I can.
The plate for the shifter is the only place I see where there's much of a chance for water getting in unless it's vented and got 50 years worth of condensation. It has the fenders so the back of the plate is not easily accessible.
I'm not looking to make it a trailer queen on the first go round. Just useable where I'm not worried about tearing something up and getting it painted.
That urge to spend all my free time on it till it's where I want it is starting to set in. I've little experience going over these. (I did a good bit on the 1650 and even more to the LoBoy) I suppose I should start gathering the usual needed parts that I haven't acquired yet.
