From what i understand robpa removing the fins it is less revolving weight and there for the motor will turn up quicker when at wot. Also by putting a steel flywheel its lighter than stock and it htink there are no fins on a steel one.But the only thing of having less or no fins is it wont cool the motor but in my case its a pulling tractor

The fins move air which creates resistance which in turn robs HP.

Steel flywheels are actually heavier than stock. The heavier weight makes it take longer for the engine to spool up to WOT but also makes it harder to drag the RPM's down at the end of the track when you need the power.

The one closest to the engine, there should be an F stamped into the s/g housing right in front of the post. It'll also be the one with the single small wire going to it.

If your not running more than 4000 rpms, removing the fins on a larger flywheel would do the same thing as a steel flywheel but you still get cooling. If you do want to try to remove the fins just cut about 3/4 of the height off with a reciprocating saw and then true it up in a lathe. from my experience i also learned that a 20lb steel works the best for 10 and 12 hp which is the same weight as a cast with the fins removed.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
