2084 pto won't stay engaged
I have a 2084. New to me. It came with a bad pto clutch so I put a new one on. The pto will stay engaged as long as the switch is held in the "on" position. When you let off, the pto quits.
I think the pto is supposed to shut off when you shift to reverse and/or raise your weight off the seat? It appears the seat wiring and the gearshift switch have the appropriate changes to overide these features. I have a wiring diagram for 1862 which looks very similar but even if I had the right one, my brain doesn't work real well on wiring diagrams. Can someone tell me which color of wires at the back of the pto switch I should looking at or anything else of interest. Is there a pto relay? I had an 1862 do this to me several years ago and I fixed it. Can't remember what I did though. |

Well, I did have it fixed, temporarily! The problem I "fixed" was the last guy to plug in the pto relay bent one of the spades over on the relay and it wasn't going into the plug.
I cut grass with it for awhile. Next day, the pto won't work. I swapped the relay to another tractor and it works okay there. Can someone advise which wires should be hot and which grounded in the relay plug with the key on and pto switch on? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
