Yep the Cleveland tag confirms it's a CCC 782. The IH version would have said International Harvester on it. That is a nice 782. Pretty cool you have the service records and receipts. So are you the second owner? Series I or Series II engine?

I would pull off the engine sheet metal and make sure there isn't a mouse house or anything stuck in the blower housing. This could cause overheating. These cubs with the side shields are meant to run with the shields on. They help direct the heat towards the front and out of the engine bay and are supposed to reduce the heating problems. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Second owner and it's a Series II engine. I had the engine side covers off as part of the tune up and they were clogged somewhat but no nests or other homesteads were found!

what makes you believe its overheating? air cooled engines do get quite hot under normal conditions maybe its not really overheating? just regular heating? just a thought.

Because it dies after 10 - 15 minutes when the tractor side covers are on. After it's cools a few it starts right up. She'll go all day without the tractor side covers on. It did find that I was missing the upper engine cover though thanks to the help I got here on OCC.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
