Finally got some time to mess with my Cub today...
Wire brushed the surface rust off the rims and sanded them down. Then primered them getting ready to throw the AG's on and load them. Started working on my wheel weight brackets as well...

Where did ya get the AG tires? Are they Deestones?
Nothing like fresh painted wheels and new rubber to improve the looks of a Cub!

truckntran,
When I was looking for AG's,I went to my buddy who has an alignment shop and they also sell tires. I priced Carlisles and the cheapest was in the $70-$80 dollar a piece area. He called the tire warehouse and told them what I was looking for. They sell a brand called Sigma's (all over seas tires anyways) and quoted me a price of $54 bucks each. These are actually Nanco tires and I assume thats the tire name.Total out the door was $116 bucks. They are 4 ply and I put them next to a set of Carlisles my one buddy has and there is minimal difference. A guy who also gets his tires from Hank the shop owner, has these tires on his JD as well as his Cub 1650. I spoke to him and he was way more impressed with them.I am loading them with antifreeze that is environmentally friendly and then doing the weight set up like Merks did.I am just waiting for a somewhat sunny day and I am painting the rims with the Valspar Cub paint I got at Tractor Supply($4.99 a can),which is an almost exact color match. After I do the backs, I am planning on getting 2 more 1 inch spindle front wheels and paint them and adding front AG's to them as well. I am also during the winter taking my 44 inch deck and having it blasted and powdercoated then spraying it the same rattle can white over the powdercoat. You guys are trouble makers as now I feel I have to keep up with the Joneses and make my Cub look awesome...lol

Bignasty, you made a good choice. I have nanco's on the front and deestones on the rear of the 782 and love them. The deestones with weight plow awesome. I've never understood paying the big bucks for the carlisles/firestones etc.. when it's just a garden tractor. The performance/quality you gain with the name brand tires just doesn't warrant the price you pay. I just got done repainting the rims on the 782 and I think you'll like the valspar cub cadet paint. It turned out much shinery than the cub cadet brand on my other tractor tires.

I think the price difference coincides with a quality difference. I've had some Nanco front tires on my cubs, and they weather-check in just a couple years...I've got some tractors with original 30-year old Goodyear and Firestone tires that haven't weathered hardly at all. I'll be interested to see how long it takes before the sidewalls start cracking on those foreign-made tires.

I plan to remove these tires and rims during the summer and only use them in the winter. The tractor will be inside unless it's being used. I agree about the longevity of the tires though. My 23x8.50's are the original on my 1200 and they are still in excellent shape. Although the tractor was kept inside the majority of it's life.

I figure if I get at least 10yrs out of these nanco's I'll be a happy camper. I've had a couple sets of garage kept carlisle tires start cracking in less than 5 so hopefully I won't notice a difference in quality with these new ones. Plus with the money I saved on these I bought a set of decals for the 1811. I just put some foreign-made front turfs on that for dirt cheap and plan on putting foreigns on the rear next month. Hopefully for my sake you're wrong on how long they'll last but darn it Matt you always seem to be right about alot of stuff when it comes to these cubs!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
