pete240: If you decide to repower, I'm in the market for an M18 casting. My barrels are OK, but my governor busted out the #1 side of my casting --just saying.

You can indeed rebuild that cylinder and have it bored, but you might not like the cost of the pistons. New OEM ones are around $155 each and you would have to do both sides, other wise the engine will be out of balance. Your cheapest and easiest route is to find a good replacement. AJ

I'm only finding vertical shaft m18's and others with unknown hours around me. I did start sourcing rebuild parts and am shocked at how much they are. I haven't called any shops to see what the machining costs would be.
I planned on using this tractor for snow. Its IH 682 with hydro lift and front ports added on. I could swap the m12 into it from my 1210 for the time being right? |

you can use the vertical jugs & pistons in the horizontal engine.
I sure wouldn't downgrade to a M-12 single cyl engine. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
