Default Mouse

My name has been Mouse since 1985, I prefer Mouse over Jim, James,Jimmy, or Jimbo. I was named after a drunk who died a slow, selfish death. I always wished I was named after someone famous. OK so in 1985, I got a union job as a laborer, sweeping, all day for 10 hrs, every day, every week, what a drag! I could not spend my life sweeping! I would talk w/ the carpenters, iron worker, finishers, and the superintend letting them know I was their man if they needed anything, before long everybody was calling on me, I had this knack of getting things done faster than any 2 laborers, I would fill up the concrete buggy w/ sandbags, put it in 1st gear, walk along side of it, dropping 1 sand bag every 4 feet, steering while I walked. Other laborers would use a wheelbarrow. By saving time on layout all trades looked better, I became a highly sought after tool for the journeymen, so happened there were 4 or 5 Jim's on the job, when I was called, 4 Jim's would stop working, this upset the foreman. One day while working with the carpenters, the finisher foreman called me, followed by the iron-worker, they all needed help, couldn't wait! They started arguing, the superintendent joined in, and they first named me Mouse because I scurried around the job site like a busy little mouse. Then my time was to be dedicated to the iron-worker, with doing lay-out with the carpenters and finishers when the iron-worker didn't need me. Well the day came when I was dedicated to just the iron-worker, Mouse, the iron-workers bi???. @ first I hated "Mouse" as a name, til one of the guys explained to me, they call you Mouse cause they like you. I finished that job, got laid off, got called back in the spring to a different job, introduced myself as Jim, until I heard someone talking about some guy called Mouse was supposed to come out and run a small part of the job, I said that's me! My name had made me sorta famous, after that day I introduced myself as Mouse. What is in a name? Is it what you make it? In the restoration circle, Mouse stands for fast high, quality, friendly, construction needs.
Thanks for reading,
Mouse
PS my wife calls me anything but Mouse, but introduces herself as "Mouse's wife".

Neat story Mouse! I would definately consider that nickname to be a compliment! It is hard to find employees who are willing to do anything extra without them wanting something extra for it. It seems like the only scurring around from the new employees that I have seen are them looking for a place to hide!!

I have been given the moniker of "Moose" here where I work. I don't have anywhere near the story to go along with it though. The company I work for is based in Charlotte, NC and since I am a "big" guy (6'4"-300 lbs.) and am from the north (as far as they are concerned), they figured Moose would be a good nickname. I figured that's a lot better than "Nanook of the North" or something looney like that!!

I work in Chicago, I travel 43+ miles every day. I don't fit in in the city, but most people like the change of personality.

Funny how names like that stick

Mine was "Punk" when I was in highschool working at a speed shop. You can imagine at 16 years old to them I was just some punk kid, so that was my name. to this day (27 now) if I go visit them, I am still "Punk"

That's a funny story there Mouse. I had a very close friend in grade, middle, and Hschool called mouse. He was/is a little guy, funny as hell. Haven't seen him in twenty years.
My nick name in HS was "Farmer". I lived on the outskirts of town, next to the only farm in the county.
I started driving young, nobody wanted to drive out to pick me up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
