Default paint ??

After primering, why wet sand vs dry sand??

Smoother finish and the finer you go with sand paper you need to use water so the pores of the sand paper don't plug up.

But, it seems it would just make the surface muddy, do you use quite a bit of water? then must have to wash the surface off afterwards, would seem a good wipe off wouldnt suffice?

You can sand a whole tractor with one or two pieces of wet sand paper where as you can only get a few swipes with a piece of dry paper. I use a small trickle from a hose to sand, enough to wash away the "mud" then wash it off full stream. Back when I did overall car jobs you are talking maybe 6 pieces of paper instead of 30. The surface is cleaner and you can actually see what you have sanded vs. taking a guess with dry. I only used wet when final sanding.

I gave the wet a try, seems to work nicely. Guess thats how I;ll do it now.

A couple of tips of the trade. If you are using full sheets (about the size of printer paper) fold them in half, tear them apart, then fold the halves into 3 equal sides. That seems to be the best size for hand sanding. When hand sanding, sand 90 to 45 degrees from the direction your fingers are pointing..side to side. Your fingers will make grooves if you sand the way they are pointing. They sell flexible blocks to use on flatter places, but you aren't shaping anything , just finish sanding with wet sanding and your hand will work fine.
