Exhaust Valve Spring Retainer
I am trying to lap the valves in a 11 HP Briggs. The intake valve has a keyhole type retainer-no problem. The exhaust valve has the 2 wedges which go inside the retainer to hold the spring on. Any recommendations on the easiest way to get those wedges out, and more importantly, get them back in?
I have a scrap engine I am practicing on. Got the wedges out, but can't get both of them back in. I'm hoping there is a secret I don't know about. Question #2. I am thinking about taking an online small engine repair course from Penn Foster. Not sure how well an on online course would work in this situation where it is a hands on application. Anyone have any experience with anything like this? Thanks

exhaust valve spring retainer
.you will need a spring compressor.i built one that goes from the top of the block to the under side of the valve spring ,thats threaded .it looks like a big [c] clamp the collars come right out ,when you colaps the spring .do the same when you return them .just place some greese on them .and remove the [c] clamp David
