Hadn't seen the previous post. 3000 hrs !!! Still I wouldn't throw money into it without some sort of NDI on that block. I have gone this route before and it just doesn't pay to zero one out.

Yeah if that's a Series II with no block damage you'd save a fortune just doing a freshening up of that engine. It'll last many more years.

Hello, I'm back with good News,
been a long Time not here, but now, i've a little Time to tell you some new about my Cub Engine, It was yery difficult to get the Parts for it, but i got them finally in Summer, i got new Undersize Rods, Undersize Main Bearings, Piston Rings, Gasket Set, and a Fuel Pump. A used Cylinder, with Piston i got from Scott,(thanks). My Engine Rebuilder grinds the Crank on 0.10 Undersize, made Valve Service, and grinds the Cylinder Bore clean, after i assembled the Engine,/without Heads), he grind the Valve Stems for the right Play. Last Week in August, i moved the Engine in the Cub, and try to start, and after the first cranks, broke the Starter. After assemble a new Starter, the Engine starts, and runs good, but not right, i think, at last, i made a Carb Service, spend new Breakers, Sparks, and Condenser, adjust the Carb, and now the Cub runs yery good, don't smoke, and have good Power. mfg Georg

That engine is definitely worth saving over putting a vanguard or something else in it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
