LT1045 worth buying?
Found an '07 LT1045 on Craigslist that needs work and is currently in pieces. It would be nice to have a second tractor around in case my 100 NF needs some attention so I'm not left with nothing (which I've done before and it stinks!). I know the LT is nowhere near what the 100 is, but would it be worth putting back together to use as a backup/light duty yard machine? I know very little about the Cubs that aren't older narrow frames, so I'm curious what someone else has to say. My yard is about 3/4 of an acre, mostly wide open. Here's a link to the tractor:

Sure wouldn't spend $300 for it. If not too far to drive, go look at it. Is the engine rebuildable? If it is, offer $125 see what happens.

Simple answer NO WAY. That one should be for free if you do them a favor and haul it away.

It appears that the posting is gone, so I didn't get to see it (and I hope you didn't buy it).
After thinking about for a second though, I'm betting that some of the guys here on OCC could fix you up with another decent IH built Cub Cadet, for about the same money.

Just what I was hoping for, a definite answer. I did not buy it and too noticed the link no longer worked this afternoon. I'll wait until something better comes along.
Thanks again gents.

Take a look in the for sale section. Some of the members have some nice stuff for reasonable $$$$
Just my 2 cents but I don't even look at anything after the Cyclops series unless it a 2000 series that I plan on using as an organ donor.

Sam, I guess I don't totally follow your comment about a 2000 series. Would you mind a little more explanation?

Sorry for the confusion. To me the end was the Cyclops. After that the frames and drive lines got so cheap that they just don't hold up unless all you are going to do is cut grass. If I'm looking for an engine I look for a 2160, 2165 or 2185. I take the engine out and part the remains. Just my 2 cents and your results may vary.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
