Default Super cub question

I have a chance to pick up a 2072 super. The question is , it has 1800 hrs , a snow blower and a 60" haban deck. I was wondering what's the value? It needs paint and decals. I was also wondering which bolts in the rear end I'm supposed to check. Thanks

Value depends on condition, location, motivated seller or buyer.

The bolts are the top three on each side of the axle where they bolt to the rear housing. The front casting ears can be broken off so pull the tunnel cover off so you can look and feel around. Take a 9/16 wrench with you.

Andy

Here are a couple pics of what to look for on the rear-end. One shows the bolt locations and one shows a broken front mount. You have 2 bolts on each side that go into the axle tubes and you have 2 bolts on each side that a bracket is bolted to that attaches to the frame.

Andy here is a few thoughts given your questions. I have or have had over 15 supers. I am not a fan of the 60" inch decks for several reasons - They are very heavy and hard to take on and off, parts are not as readily available, They are limited to the tractors they will fit on and Also the bigger the deck the more strain that was put on the tractor engine over time. You need to make sure the gear box on the snow blower is good. I have seen them sell themselves for $300-$500 depending on model and condition. 1800 hrs is more than I like to see some say these engines are only good for about 1500-2000 hrs I have never had one with over 1200 hrs on meter but you never know if they have been replaced or diconnected. I have paid any where from $700 to $1600 for these tractors more for diesels. Condition is everything also if there is a 3pnt hitch or rear pto. These are just my observations and opinions from dealing with supers over the years. Not ment to offend those who disagree the more opinions you get the more you can form your own. Good luck. You can see some pis of my supers in the events and plow day catagory under the danville thread

Not to hi-jack this thread but can you expand on the gearbox statement? I have one that is a little noisy. Sounds like a bearing. This is the gearbox that is the first one off the pto.

It wasn't loose and it wasn't noisy of course when I bought it since it wasn't mounted on a tractor.

I am talking about the gear box up front where the paddles are. I just grab and shake to see if there is any play.

just for comparison... i got my 1872 1.5 years ago in CT. it came with a 54" power snow plow, 50c mower deck, snow blower, wheel weights, and 250lbs suitcase weights. had 830 hours and was in pretty good condition. only issue was the leaking steering column. got it all for 2,200. i thought it was a fair deal. hope this helps.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
