New from S. Illinois
Hello all! Thought I'd go ahead and post a little about me. I joined OCC this week. I grew up on a farm where we ran good ol' International tractors. Of course, several cub cadets were also there. Now, the farm is gone, family retired and I didn't continue the legacy. I own and run a repair shop in my home town. We work on just about anything with a motor, specialize in heavy equipment/ diesel repair. That of course doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of cars that roll through here, along with mowers, small engines, but we like the big stuff.
I am a proud owner of an early 1811 and a list of attachments that, as I get time, I will list. I am in the process of finishing several attachment builds as I am planning to start a second business doing light yard excavation/ drainage and plan to use the cadet for tilling, blading and planting grass. I also currently have a 1710 and getting ready to restore the 1969 Model 71 that my grandad bought brand new. It is going to be a surprise to him. He brought it to me and asked that I get it running again, but doesn't know I plan to restore it. It is one he had on the farm (my dad also had a red 782 he bought new). When I get done this will be the 4th motor that we have put in the old girl!! I would hate to know how many hours it has one it. We used it to pull equipment around in the barn lot, mow, cut wood, and spread clover and hay seed in the early spring, drag irrigation equipment around, and planted sweet corn and cultivate the gardens!! I spent many hours on it before I was big enough to run the tractors. Looking very forward to the project. Rounding up parts now. It will not be totally stock as I plan to put a 14hp in it and add all the options that a 71 could have came with!! As a side note I am a staunch perfectionist..... Which means when I fabricate, if it doesn't look like they made 100 that way, I do it again till it's perfect. Same goes when I paint. I refuse to do body work on cars here at the shop, not because I can't..... because it never satisfies me! Looking forward to OCC!!! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
