Thanks Randy... I'm hoping to be able to take it to a test and tune some weekend. Do all of the 10 - 14's have the same stroke?/ just the bore changes?

Here is another picture that I had already taken of the engine..

10 horse has a shorter stroke, go to http://www.kohlerengines.com/manuals/landing.htm

and download a copy. That will help I'm sure, can't have too many manuals you know!

Its probably a 12hp but only one way to know for sure now.

I really think the numbers are behind the coil. Have you tried removing the coil.

We got the tractor started today! I took gas tank off and emptied the old gas. Found it had a bit of rust inside, so I have it in my acid tank for the night.

Put a temporary tank on and it fired right up... except carb leaked. We took the carb apart, but really didnt see any major problems. Everything look pretty clean. The needle was sticking a bit at first, but after running it a while , seems to be working pretty good.

Still have some fine tuning, but the engine runs and sounds solid!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
