Hi new to the forum
I have a IH Cub Cadet 73 that I've been given rides on by my grandfather when I was in diapers and have drove/cut grass ect. MANY times since.
It has been sitting in a field behind a shed for at least ten years almost forgotten. My son and his friend decided to try and stert it before it was scrapped. Well the stubborn son of gun started within 15 mins with ether and gas! Now it's running good 2 days later. My problem is the mower deck is practically trashed after almost 40 yrs of cutting grass. Is a new deck even available ? I shed a few tears when that old girl started and moved. I'd REALLY like to jump on and cut grass again with it! LOTS of good memories! |

Great story about the 73. Welcome to OCC. You might go post an inquiry about mower decks in the Implements and Attachments section of the forum. I'm sure many experienced OCCers will have a comment or a suggestion.

Welcome.
I have a 73, not running right now, needs some electrical attenion and eventually a engine rebuild. I like the 73, seem to be a nice little tractor. Yes you should be able to find a deck. Regards. Chris

Welcome to our site. I have no experience with the model you have but I am always amazed at these old machines and their near indestructable bodys. When an old machine has an emotional attachment so much the better. It quickens my heart when a machine such as this is saved from the scrap yard because they are not being made anymore and when they are gone they are gone. Parts for these old tractors are out there and may require a bit of diligence to find but as I said they are out there as well as owners and service manuals which most of us use as a last resort.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
