Need help replacing head gasket on K-301
Hi guys
I'm getting ready to replace the head gasket on my 1966 cub cadet 122 12hp Kohler I need to know if I need to use Permatex Ultra Copper Maximum Temperature RTV Silicone Gasket or if I need to install the head gasket dry. Also which holes in the engine are the 2 1/4inch and which ones take the 2 1/2 bolts and why there is no spacer? thanks Thad

ive never had any issues as far as the bolt length go by the time theres a washer on the bolt and its going through the exhaust shield or the gas tank holder ive never bottomed a head bolt. Theres only a couple bolts that go above the carb that stay after you take all the other stuff out maybe put them there

I just did the head gasket on my 124. Got new grade 8 bolts and washers. All bolts were the same length - 2 1/2 inch.. Put the gasket on dry. Torqued everything down . Ran it for 1/2 hour at 3/4 throttle under a load. Torqued the head again. Good to go.
