LT1040 eats mower deck belts
My Cub LT1040, model 13AX10CG710, has eaten 4 belts this season. It ate 4 or 5 last season. I've replaced all 4 pulleys, but the belts still break or constantly pop off. Has anyone found a solution for this problem? I don't want to buy a herd of goats.
The first 4 years that I owned the mower, there were no problems. But after 6 years of ownership, the mower is falling apart. I'll never buy another MTD product again. I will say that I've not had any engine or carb problems. |

Fist of all
I could point you to at least 3 threads that people talk about this problem on similar mowers...... but I'll save you the time. It usually turns out to be one or more of the following problems: 1.) Aftermarket junk belts. 2.) Bad idler pulley. 3.) Incorrect belt routing. 4.) Misaligned deck. (I.E. nose/ front of the deck lower than the rear, or visa versa.) |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
