Default New Guy from SE KS

Greetings, from Pittsburg KS. I just recently bought a Cub Cadet. I don't know what year or model it is or where to find any info on it. It has a 12hp Kohler motor w/automatic compression release. The deck is 54"" wide, 3 spd transaxle, and headlights. Any help would appreciated.

Default Thnx for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome OCC.

A little about myself. I'm 55, a VET, with a few disabilities. With that said, I decided that sense jobs are hard to come by ,thought I would get into the OPE repair business. I'm coming across a lot of good deals on equipment that ppl would rather replace than repair.I picked up a Cub Cadet for fixing a starter on his other lawn tractor, 20 minutes and I was loading the cadet into my truck.
The question now is should I keep it as a restoration project, or just repair it and sell it. I think all it needs is a carburetor, finding one of those at a reasonable price has not been easy. Any way, could some one tell me where to locate the serial number on the frame and on the engine?
I really like all of the different attachments and things you can do with this tractor, but if I start getting into it, I'm afraid I won't get much out of it when I decide to sell it.

The model & serial tag location is dependent on the model series. Again, a picture would accurately tell us what you have.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
