Default New Engine break-in

Guys what would you say the break in period for a new K321 should be before we pull with it.thanks.

1991 wheelhorse 520h 60"deck 48"snow blower w/ onan 20 hp
1980 whelhorse b-82 need restore
1976 simplicity 7116 all restored waiting for a new motor (my sons tractor)
1967 sears super 12 (my sons tractor)
1972 Cub cadet 108 restored w/ complete motor rebuild 5 years ago

I'm not much of one for break in , when we dyno stocker engines they get put to work right away , no half load runs or putz runs. just make sure the jetting isn't lean. you'll hurt the engine more if its lean than if its rich. change the oil after a couple runs.

What oil would you recommend.Engine not going over 4000 rpm's.

Mobile Delvac 15-40 diesel engine oil. there's others that work well to but this is readily available and works very well in our PS/SS engines.

I look for couple things in oil for break in, Rotella isn't as good as the Delvac is in that department. Like I said. there's allot of options. but when it comes to price , availability and what you need its tough to beat it. I've been running the Delvac in My PS/SS for almost 2 years, I don't see any adverse wear and that thing turns pretty hard. As a Super Stock with an S&S Super D that's been bored out it'll hit 10,000 rpm before I start to slide the clutch out on the starting line.
In a oil test done on a dyno that we were part of over 20 oils were tested . there is one 0W-20 oil that outshines the others but for the cost of it vs the runs you get out of it I haven't decided if its worth it. one of our customers has been using it with great success and it is worth 1 hp on a super stock. translating that to a stocker probably next to nothing for gains. but there is something to turning parts through thin oil that makes sense. I run very light fluid in my rearend and only 2 qts for that reason.
