Carburetor - Kohler vs. Walbro?
At Time, I have a Cub Cadet 102, that a Friend purchased from me, in my Garage to make the Engine. This 102 have the K-241 with a Walbro Carb. This Carb have the wrong Choke Lever, the Choke is not working, if the Choke Cable is pulled, it is open. Also, Fuel Comes out of the Air Filter Housing.
I want to purchase a Kohler Carb in ebay, but a ebay Member told me, the Walbro Carbs are much better and Kohler never made a Carb. My "O" have a Carter Carb, and I'm not sure, but I think, the Carb in my 1984 CCC red 782 have the Word "Kohler" on it. Is this correct, and wich Carb is better? Thanks, mfg Georg

Georg:
Originally, there was a Carburetor Company called Carter. Kohler bought these carburetors from the beginning of Cub Cadet. At some point in time, Kohler purchased the Carter Company. From then on, all the "Carter" carburetors became "Kohler Carburators". So, a Carter and Kohler carburetors are really the same thing. With the increased scrutiny from our EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the small engine manufactures (Kohler included) had to be concerned about exhaust emissions. Most of them went to a "fixed jet" (non-adjustable) carburetor made by Walbro Corporation to reduce emissions. The Kohler (Carter) carburetor is a totally "adjustable" carburetor", while the Walbro has limited adjust-ability. From reading all the posts on Carburetors here, or on other Forums, it is a general consensus, that the Kohler Carburetor is much more preferred over the Walbro. It is not to say, that the Walbro Carburetor is no good, it is just more temperamental when trying to tune your engine. I hope that explains it.

you are much better off with a carter/Kohler carb than the walbro.
the way the engine reacts to the load is so much better with the Kohler |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
