Default Governor weights sticking ????

Guys i have a question. We had a pull tonight and unloaded did our usual put weights on and weighed up and the tractor had a skip and found out the plug was junk. But what happened after is weird. We run 3 weight classes and missed the first one.We run 4000 rpm and when we pushed the throttle it would rev up like an open rpm motor..Checked all the usual things and come to the fact that the governor gear broke .Because i didn't feel any resistance like you should on the governor arm.So we thought.Loaded it on the trailer and was going to go home.Readjusted the governor arm per kohler specs and had only 2000 or less rpm's and the readjusted it and had open rpm's.But we did governor arm adjustment numerous times and had same results.Low rpm's or wide open. Then toke it apart again and my brother tapped the side of the block with a hammer and put back together and had 3850 rpm's.So we ran it and was fine.Next class moved governor spring and was back up to 4000 rpm's.But the whole time we adjusted the governor spring in different holes before governor adjustment and wouldn't make a difference.Could one of the weights have hung open.

I suppose its possible. I've never run into it. when its idling and you push the gov arm to the full throttle position you should feel it pushing back. same goes when you have it wide open and you push it to idle. it should push back. if its working correctly now you could get familiar with the feeling of it in case it acts up again

Just curious, do you have the current plastic governor gear installed or one of the old cast iron units?

Not sure on which one is in there because iv'e never been inisde this motor. It is a Kohler k241 10hp so it could have the metal one not sure. And as far as the resistance on the governor i know what to feel for and like i said it wasn't there and then it was.I don't know.We went from being on the trailer for the first class to getting a 2nd and a 3rd the next two classes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
