You know, for conversation purposes, the cost of anything is determined by what people will pay. We are collectively a pretty large group of buyers, and people like us are the ones buying the tractors. As far as I'm concerned we set the bar, both in buying and selling. You know you're buying a 20 year old tractor. And as Sam stated, it's easy to wrap up $3000 in one with a buying price at or around $1200. It's really pretty simple. Just don't pay the high prices.

I drove two hours to just east of Nashville to get this one. $600 for what you see. What you don't see is the engine has at least one blown head gasket. I haven't fixed it yet. Some of the front end plastic was damaged. I've fixed that. The mower deck had three bad spindle bearings. I've fixed two of them. The front of the Hydro was broken where the frame mount attaches on one side. I fixed that with one of Sam Mac's braces. Three tires wouldn't hold air. I've fixed that.
Fortunately, I had some extra bearing spindles and can do the mechanical work myself. If I had a dealer do this work,, I'd be way under water on it. That's the bad. The good is, I've wanted a Super for over twenty years. Never could find one that fit my price range. Now I have one and once I fix the head gasket, there's really nothing wrong with it and I'll park it with the rest of them. PS. My favorite for cutting grass in an 1864 that I cobbled up out of an 1864 and two 1641's. |

The supers are out there for a decent price if you keep your eyes peeled and aren't in a hurry. I've had 4 supers over the years and am down to just three now, all smokers. I feel I paid reasonable prices for all, especially the diesels. I don't think I'm too far away from you either. Just live 20 minutes north of the Quad Cities.............(I think I saw your wanted ad on CL for the blade)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
