Another new guy
Well hello.
I'm RJ an unemployed auto-tech. I bought A SLTX 1054 about 2 years ago. Reading this forum I have come to realize I bought a MTD. Not real happy about that, but here's the thing I'm having trouble with the hydro trans. The tractor never backed up well even when new. I assumed (there's that word) that was normal. Now I think mine was a problem from day one. Now it doesn't want to backup at all. It also goes forward only slowly. The manual states the trans is not serviceable. To me if it is not serviceable, how did they build it? I have just replaced the drive belt, hoping it was slipping. Little or no change. Couple of questions. The online parts guide says 20w50 oil. Does anyone know what type of oil? Does anyone know which transmissions from larger mowers will fit?

Hello and Welcome! Sorry to hear of your transmission problems,I would say try to find one like yours on c-list or somewhere like that. I have seen some on there with blown engines that could be bought fairly cheap and you could swap trannys. One off a GTX1050 or a LGT1050 I would fit I'd think. Or a tranny from a craftsman or husqvarna may fit too,not sure. As for being not servicable that means you can't change oil I would say or really do to much to it. 20W50 is motor oil. Someone else here has more experience with these than I do and will be of more help than I can. Hope you get it going! Good luck! Alot of helpful people here!

Thank you, I really need to go larger. Hopefully 2000 series or so. The person who sold this to me never used the word lawn tractor or riding mower. I did not receive an owners manual with it. When I down loaded one I thought all of the owners manuals said riding mower on the front.
