i was just looking at parts brake downs and maybe i'm reading it wrong but they don't show a seal for the QA36 they do for the QA36A??
Is the seal you are looking for between the bearings?
If this is the seal you are looking for yes you can still get them aftermarket couldn't find them OEM.
I have a set ordered and once i get them i will post the number.
Hope this helps
Tony

I just finished a QA42A box and there are 2 bearings and one seal at the end of each shaft. So, If you are going to O/H the box you will need 2 inners, 2 outers and 2 seals.

The inners are open face rollers that should 1st be packed before installation.
I used wheel bearing grease for that as well as in the gear box itself. The seal goes between the inner and outer bearing. The outers are sealed bearings.

I chose to go with parts from IH Case instead of aftermarket stuff which would no doubt be cheaper. Here are some #s for reference. These are for the QA42 but should be the same for others, you will have to do your own research here.

Bearing #475627R91 $26.00 ea 2 req'd
Bearing #475628R91 $23.32 ea 2 req'd
Seal #485306R1 $11.48 2 req'd
Needle bearing for the adjuster bracket #387835R91 $9.35 ea 2 req'd

Thanks to you guys for the info. I can't justify spending that kind of $$$ on a 45 year old attachment that I don't use that much anyway.
Thanks again.

Well I got lucky yesterday and found a good gearbox locally for the QA36. The best part was that I traded a non working chain saw for it. The 36 lives again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
