Repainting Tractor
I always said Cub Cadets should be yellow & white, but with the run of bad luck that I had with this motor I thought a new paint job would change my luck around for me. Lets see how 2014 works out for me with red paint.

Little rocket
TELL ya what I guess I should not talk about snowmobile on here but that thing is a little rocket on the snow . also here in pa. you can pickup really nice older sleds for cheap. now to tell you about my tractor I have been so frustrated with it for 3yrs now finally came to the conclusion that I must of had a hardened block .never could get the rings to stay sealed after 4 hooks down track they were leaking. always sealed up great on the dyno but never stayed sealed so we started over with a different block this year.

I don't think its from a hardend block, sounds more like out of round or the taper or maybe the grit of the stone you were honing the bore with .
We built several 50.5 flatheads with a chrome bore, they had to be honed with a diamond hone and had trouble with ring seal but we were able to correct it by going to a softer ring. |

no, there should have been cross hatch present after a year. how were you determining that the rings were losing seal? stock piston? did you rehone it with every ring set ? did you ever go to an oversize to get the bore straight and round?

leak down on motor both exhaust and intake valves were tight no air leak .air blowing past rings .the man doing motor is very well known here in PA. for the quality of the pulling motors that he builds.he actually has a waiting list of customers for the top of the line motor he builds.it is odd they seal well on the dyno but after a few hooks rings no longer sealed

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
