Did you measure the belt that you have? Maybe it's not 28".

Edit to add: I just measured a 3/8 x 28 Gates belt and pulled tight it is about 13.5" on the outside. That belt fits my qa36.

I'll check it out when I get home, thanks for checking. Of course I bought two just in case

that IS reverse thread and that castle nut makes sense because there is a hole for it which is not the case with the adjuster I have. I'm starting to think I got a little hosed on this snow thrower from craigslist. The belt I was given was too big, the lifting rod was too short. now this...
I purchased material, I have begun machining and will be offering these shortly.

Jeff
Is there a way to incorporate some kind of socket head on it to make it able to be turned with a wrench? Even a nut to put a socket on or even a female socket adapter (like the fill plug on older Cub rear ends have) would make it easier to get to from time to time. Just a thought, looking forward to seeing what comes out of your shop!

Yes, since I make them, I can do pretty much anything I want.

I can weld a nut on the end instead of the handle so a 3/4" wrench or socket can be used.

Thanks Jeff but I the nut on my QA plate was right handed threaded to match the adjuster I had as well, I wouldn't be able to use this without swapping it that out.

Flattened my belt out, it's about 13.5" on the outside as well. This is it sitting at rest, with slack on the belt and out of room for adjustment.

That belt looks like it sits down in there pretty far. I wonder if the sides are worn
A shorter belt would work. Did you run the belt on there yet? If not, you may be able to return it .

I could make a right handed version of the tensioner for you if you want.

I can make the screw right handed. Can you get me the overall length from the handle ( where the rod starts ) to the end of the threaded rod?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
