Primer paint codes
Hi all,
Im anxious to use the holiday weekend to spray some parts, and am in need of primer. From the suggestions here, its recommended to use a high zinc epoxy based primer. Does anyone have a specific model/part number? The NAPA has a Martin Senour PIP101 This appears to be a basic primer And my local PPG store has a MP282 (they dont carry the JP 202 shopline product). This is a 2k primer (has a catalyst with it I think) But its not clear to me that these PPG or Martin Senour products are 'high zinc' content Sooooo.... can anyone here offer up what their particular primer model numbers are? (high zinc epoxy primer) |

A 2K primer IS NOT an epoxy. There are several epoxy primers. They really should be followed by a 2K primer. Epoxy is not considered a "sander/filler" primer. I suggest (as I always do) using NASON paint. But PPG has a good epoxy too. I just like to lay the same brand on top of each other. Not a good idea to mix paint brands. I stick with NASON. Their epoxy is called Full Poxy number 491-16 with a 483-19 catalyst. Don't get hung up on the "high zinc" content. It's not a big deal. Just worry about getting a good name brand primer (if that's what your looking for).

Thanks jmech
Neither the napa nor the ppg personnel seemed to know of an epoxy based primer. Hence I was asking for a specific number to quote to them |

Cool. There is another primer, that I haven't used yet, but a friend of mine paints more equipment than I do, and he's switched to it because it's so much cheaper than the Nason. I'll try to get the info and post back. I can't even remember if it's PPG, or what it is. I just remember it's like $30 a gallon cheaper.

PPG makes an epoxy primer. Depends on what color you want as a base, but they are DP50 is a gray. They make it in different colors. It is a good primer, and as said, it needs to be covered by a sandable primer.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
