Default A big hello from Central North Carolina

Hi Everyone,
Since I have now figured out how to use this site I thought I would share a little bit about myself.

First off, I am a retired school teacher (I taught Tech Math for learning disabled students) and I am a Proud great grandmother! I was born in Virginia, have lived overseas, and raised my second batch of children in Central Virginia. My husband passed a few years ago, but he practiced as a tax attorney. I own 2 cub cadets, a John Deere, a Weed Eater Lawn Mower (don't buy one because they are junk), a Yanmar Tractor - I love my tractor, and a snapper. I love my cub cadets as they are very well made!

I've always done handyman work - my husband never even put in a light bulb he worked so hard, and I used to find fixing things very enjoyable. There is a great sense of accomplishment when you get something working again. Prior to becoming a school teacher I was a general contractor and built track homes and custom homes - I loved doing that but I found it to be a man's world and was shunned most of the time - things may be different now as that was many, many years ago. However, that made me more determined to build the best house in a very fast and organized manner. I had to show those "ole boys" up. lol I got out of the building business because it was consuming my life and my husband wanted to see me every once in awhile. lol So while I am new in trying to repair small engines, I'm not afraid to tackle any job; however, I was able to tell the difference between a 2x12 and cornice; on the other hand, I find it very difficult to identify much on the small engine except the bolts.

My 2 Cub Cadets are old - I have a 3165 and a RZT 50 inch. I bought both of them used and the 3165 was well cared for; however, the RZT 50 has seen better days but runs good except it screeches when I make turns which is very annoying - it is so different from the 3165 as it is FAST and the garden tractor is slow! Amazing how the lawn mowers can be the difference between night and day. I have about 3 acres to mow and some of the grass is so thick that if you don't mow it twice a week you can't get through it easily. Both Cub Cadets have proven that they are the lawn mower anyone who has a sizable lawn needs to have - I can't say enough about the durability and construction of these machines. My 3165 went down about 2 years ago and I went to Lowes and bought a $2000 lawn mower and brought it home and cut one strip of grass before I loaded it back on the trailer and returned it - it was poorly made and wiggled and struggled just cutting a few feet of grass - Lowes took it back with no questions asked so I was blessed in that respect.

In addition to loving my Cub Cadets I also love Rottweilers - I have 2 female Rots and a big adorable male Lab who is the best animal I have ever owned! I just downsized but had 3 horses, 2 goats and scads of chickens. I did adopt a few more cats though because the mice are horrible in the country, but large animals, as much as I loved them, were getting a little too much for me to handle - I don't know how these old ranchers and farmers do it at 70 and 80 years old, but I see them everyday out in the fields or on their tractors. God bless their hearts - they love the land!

Well, now that you have heard the story of my life I hope you will be willing to share your knowledge as I travel the road of repairs for my Cubs.

Have a blessed day and thanks for allowing me to join your group.

Welcome from central PA. Tractor driving, and fixing is not gender specific neither is this site. When you have questions, fire away as there is vast knowledge to be revealed to you when needed.

Default Greetings!

You sound like a kindred spirit. I'm still stuck in Maryland trying to get this house on the market. When I bought this place in 2007 it needed a bit of work. When done there will be two interior walls I didn't tear out. I hope I can sell it.

I have a Model 129 Hydro which runs great but has belt trouble. I'm sure it's solvable with some answers from this group.

Looking forward to "talking" with everyone.

Steve

Welcome to OCC!

Great story. As others have said tractors don't know the gender of the operator or the mechanic. Holler if we can help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
