Ryan,
When I bought my first smoker, I didn't have a huge knowledge base on the kubota diesels. I'd been around larger tractor diesels, though (806, 1206, 560D, etc.) I like your style and thinking about getting your hands dirty and learning. Any diesel can be pricey to work on. But so can Onans', Commands, twin Kohlers, etc. I haven't met a little kubota that doesn't run great yet. All my smokers were bought as runners and the highest houred one is 1100 hours IIRC. I wonder what Todd's take is on the diesels. He's been around and has more smokers than I do. Wonder if he has some input? Price on that 1512 is high IMHO. Been listed on CL for 2 months now and still not sold. We all know the diesels usually don't last very long so .

If someone decides to buy this, I may be able to sweeten the deal by taking the 3pt hitch off your hands.

Looks nice, but I think he is a little high on the price but, most of mine I had to put $300 to $500 in them to get them where they were good workers and then add the cat 0. If you go the cheap route like I do, plan on a good $200 for the drive line(rag joint type), probably another $100 for filters and belts, another $125 for the starter/GP upgrade and y'all know you can't have a diesel with turf tires so there's another $250...it adds up quick. Keep looking, one will show up when the time is right.

I forgot to mention that too.... There was a D640 here on CL close to my house pulled from a 1782 in January. It was the complete engine cradle with the Cub motor plate and the asking price was $1200. I figured I would wait a week and make an offer. I did that and called the guy, it sold a few days after he posted it. These little diesel engines bring good money yet.

I "bought" mine for a trade. Kid wanted a running gas engine to replace it. He got a CH18, and I got a D600. I was happy, happy, happy!!!
He thought he was gonna put it in a puller..... but couldn't make it run. Now I get to. Came with a radiator, but no cradle. I didn't care about the cradle. Mine is going to be "special" anyway. You know, it's funny. They only bring big $$ when it says "out of a #### cub cadet". Mine came from a Jacobson. Same motor.... less $$. Gotta know how to "work it". |

I know Mike Masheris up in Elgin, IL has used the Jacobsen diesel in a cub. I've seen em in the Jacobsen golf course reel mowers. Usually have quite a few more hours on them. I've seen a couple with 3000+ hours still running good with proper maintenance.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
