I'm a machinist, yes. Among many other things LOL I make all sorts of custom parts and have built a few custom bikes. And have reworked Corvair pistons to fit an 80" flathead.
Wouldn't be the first bore-and-hone I did. Or the twentieth. You have a valid point though. We ain't talking Harley jugs here. The time involved in making the right fixture[s] to do the job right, escalates the PITA factor immensely. Most of the work I do involves special fixturing, and for a one-off it is seldom worth it unless [1] the customer has bottomless pockets or [2] it's for making stuff for a hobby interest like custom morse code paddles or special plumbing parts for the wife's reef aquarium.. For a machine for yardwork [which I did not buy to make more work for myself but to make an onerous task easier--I swear the 42 deck on this 108 out-mows either of my other decks, even the 48 on my 1811] it's another story when there's probably a dozen places in the county I can take the motor to.
