well it looks like the new fuel pump has fixed the problem. I put the new one on and fired the 1515 up and all is well with one small self inflicted pain. Mowed a few passes in the front yard when all went dead. lots of cursing and a long push back to the workshop all I got was a click when I turned the key. I really wanted the beast to keep rolling over the hill and burst into a ball of flame in the ditch below. A day later while on my way to work i remembered it had died while mowing. I turned around and went right back home. yeah the blade was still engaged so all I could get out of it was the electronic clutch engaging. Pulled the switch and she started right up. Overlooking the obvious makes for a load of unnecessary work.
