Default Cub 830 - Transaxle Troubles

Hi guys, I just recently got a Cub 830 RER. It wasn't running when I bought it, I also noticed that it didn't want to roll very easily when in neutral. Well I got it fired up and it's running OK, I drove it around the yard a little bit and it seems to work OK. But after about 10 minutes in high gear it just stopped moving. Then when I moved the shift lever into neutral, the rider began moving backwards. I shut it down and let it cool off for few minutes, then I was able to get forward and reverse to work like they should. Drove it back over to the garage and have decided I will need to tear apart the transaxle to investigate.

I have the service manual so I'm well prepared to take it apart. But I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this sort of thing happen, was this a common problem? How about parts for the rear transaxle, still readily available or will I have to hunt high and low?

Just thought I'd put it out there for the experts, maybe somebody has seen it happen before. If not, guess I'll be the new "expert" in town once I take it apart and figure out what happened

Have you made any progress with this? I own one of these and have had similar issues. Nothing was wrong with the transaxle. Turned out to be the drive belt instead. in fact, I had to replace 2 sets in consecutive seasons to learn that the drive pulley system can be very picky and loves attention.
Anyway, hope you haven't given up on her!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
