A little back yard mechanic fix I thought I'd share
As I'm sure you guys have seen, I have recently gotten back my first Cub, a 1992 1330. Nothing special by any means, but it's earned a place in my garage. However, when I got it back, it had one glaring problem. Long story short, the guy I sold it to was going to let his neighbor's son drive the little Cub. Kid hopped on, didn't release the brake, and jammed the hydro lever forward, snapping it off (I'm sure it was worn before that, but that's the straw that broke the camels back, err...the Cubs lever). So, I was left with what you see in the first pic below.
I posted an ad in the "Wanted Section" of this site for a new lever/assembly, which leads me to this thread. I wanted to "show off" the work that was done, and give thanks to Sam Mac/CADplans for the idea of reshaping the lever, and Berwill for the offer to fix it right if I couldn't The idea suggested was to basically take a hammer, flatten out the bottom of the handle, drill 2 new holes, and re-attach. The solution was simple and I had the tools to do it, a hammer! So the 2nd pic is of the finished lever. It's not perfect by any means, but it came out honestly better than I thought it would. I don't have any re-attachment pics because I have to make a pit stop at the hardware store after work, the rivets I had weren't the right size and I didn't have any small enough nuts and bolts to put it back together. But the hard work is done!! I'll put the lever back on tonight, put the machine back together, and take it for a test drive. Wish me luck!

Looks good to me. Maybe hit it with a flat file to clean it up a bit. Just a FYI you can just drill the holes to fit 1/4" bolts, ask me how I know.

16 and 20 penny spikes make good rivets when cut to length.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
