GT2544 PTO issues
I just replaced the clutch on my GT2544, torqued it down to specs, secured the clutch body slot to the stop stud and all seemed well. I took her for a little ride and everything went well.
When I brought it to the barn, it was making strange noises. I took a look and the clutch body was moving freely, the belt torn in places and the stud sheared off in the block. I'm not sure how or why this happened, as everything appeared to be put together properly. Any help or advice is appreciated. |

Take a look at the bearing in the PTO closest to the engine, my guess is it locked up.

Clutch wobble
After replacing the PTO on my GT2544, it starts right up and ran well at first. Now I notice that the clutch wobbles as a unit and the movement of the mower doesn't seem right. It also makes a slight noise from the clutch area. The torque is fine, the belt seems fine and is very tight on the clutch.
I can't recall whether the clutch did the same wobble when I first bought it. I don't seem to remember it doing that. If it is not supposed to wobble, any suggestions?? Thanks! |

Just my 2 cents but my non professional opinion would be that the bearings in the clutch have gone on strike AKA toast, see you later, we gotta go.

GT2544 PTO issues
We had our original clutch seize up after noticing that the blades kept running with the PTO control in or out and also in reverse.
We got a new replacement clutch and placed it in exactly as per the instructions and torqued it properly. Initially we found that the stud that holds the clutch steady to the engine had sheared and the drive belt was torn in a few areas. We replaced the stud and took a closer look at the clutch operation itself. The entire clutch appears to wobble. I do not recall it doing that before. It runs, but does not feel right. Any ideas are much appreciated. |

This is the second thread that you starter for the same thing.....
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=34772 The only real reason that I can think of for a "wobbly" PTO is a bent crankshaft. Take the PTO back off and start the engine, or roll it over by hand. Look and see if the crank is bent. |

I'm wondering if the part with the pulley on it popped off the spacer that sits between the magnetic coil and the pulley. That style off clutch can be a bit of a PITA. I'd take it apart and check it out. The spacer has a shoulder on it that fits into the bearing in the pulley.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
