Default Won't start when hot (K321 on 149)

I haven't gone to pick the 149 up from Dallas yet, but was talking to my uncle tonight about some of it's issues. He has had a "mechanic" look at it, and was told it's "vapor lock".

The tractor starts up fine initially and runs strong. If you shut down then try to restart, it doesnt start. Let it cool down, and it starts right up.

What do ya'll think? I've only heard of vapor lock on fuel injected engines, but i'm no mechanic.

Appreciate any tips you might have! I tried searching through all the other posts/threads, but didn't see anything exactly like this.

thanks again

J Rob

Sounds like a weak coil... ready to become a "bad" coil.
That all going under the assumption that it cranks over when hot, but won't fire.

MetalRain: I would bet that it's more likely a bad ground issue. The battery chassis ground in those rear-under-the-seat batteries are notorious for corrosion buildup. See the hole in the frame just to the rear of where it's grounded now??... Scrape the paint to bare metal around it and relocate the ground cable there for a good chassis ground (you may have to get a slightly longer ground cable to do this) and then go up to the right front and make sure the short ground cable from the frame (nose piece bolt) to the engine block is still there and connected good. Your "vapor lock" problem probably will just disappear....BTDT!!

MetalRain: Your assumption is correct, sorry I forgot to put that in. When the engine is hot, and you are trying to start, everything works (turns over)it just won't start. I haven't actually picked up the tractor, but I suppose if I check to see if its getting a spark when hot, that would point back to the coil issue?

MBounds: I'll definitely make sure the ground is correct like you said. I do remember being a kid, and seeing corrosion on the battery terminal.

Thanks guys for your inputs. More to come (as soon as I pick up the Cub). I'll start posting pics too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
