SaturnV: You need to comply with the Cub Cadet Service Bulletin CC-106, Dated Feb 9, 1987. It's about cold weather cranking for the 882 (782D/1512, etc.). You have to add a second ground cable...

Email me at cubcadet@windstream.net & I'll send you a Hi-Res copy of the bulletin...

@ MBounds The previous owners had already done that a number of years ago. They left the original ground attached to the air cleaner mount, and added another much larger one to the block. There is even a third, small ground leading to the dash area.

@ Amigatec Yep, I've learned much from my short lurking time on these forums. I changed the oil out first thing, Shell Rotella T 15W-40 only. I'm in the Guthrie/Edmond area, just down the road from you.

@mikepc Once it fired up, then I really felt like a crook.

@Matt G. Check, check and check. You guys are a great source of advice. I've only run it for a minute at a time so far, so I'll get some fuel additive in asap.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
