Thanks for the replies. I don't think it's gonna go back on. Looks like a problem waiting to happen in wet snow. I also like the velcro fuel door.

I decided to check out the manual for the cab I picked up tonight and,,,,, I KNOW I KNOW,,,,, we really aren't supposed to read these things but, now hear me out, the people that designed this cab wants you to drill holes in the fenders for mounting it to the tractor with these brackets that came in a coffee can along with a bunch of bolts. That ain't gonna happen!!! Guess I'll try it with no brackets and see how solid it is.

Why is everyone so opposed to drilling holes in the fenders?
The cab was offered through Cub Cadet, it's a "factory" thing. It's not going to decrease the value of the machine. It's not like if in 20 years you go to sell it some guy is gonna say "OHHHHHH holes in the fender, that's $100 off the price." Because your gonna say, hey I have the cab that uses those holes, and for another $500 (or whatever) you can have it too. By then, they will be rare and worth it. I say drill the holes. Do it right. Just my On the fingers in the chute. I have them in my blower/throwers. They are there to keep rocks and such from going so far. They are supposed to be mounted with a spring that lets them move "open" when they are hit. I don't have any issues from running them, and I see them as a safety thing. Not for the operator, but for things in the machines path. (I.E. other people, windows, cars....) If you need pic of the spring and how it's supposed to me mounted, I'm sure I can snap a pic. |

Simple answer for this trying problem, just find a used fender pan and drill the worst one for the cab, keep the nice one for whenever.

For what it's worth guys, I have the same cab on my 1864 and do not have the fender mounts installed (partly because it didn't come with them ). I just have the two rear braces that bolt to the frame and the mount points on the footrests; so far, no issues.
Edit: Ok, so I lied. I have the mounts that are supposed to secure it to the fenders, just never drilled the holes and bolted it up. Haven't seen a need to yet.

Just be careful you don't drill through the gas tank. I had a Cyclops that the PO had installed a cup holder on top of the fender, yep drilled right through the top of the fender and tank.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
