There is no comparing a gear drive and a hydro.

Ok I might be willing to sacrifice hydro lift if the 3spd would be that much better.

Still gotta get the power to the rear, and then to the ground. If you are successful, you'll still tear up the rear. You'll have to build it up to handle it. That'll cost at least a grand. By the time you get a clutch that will hold, then bearings and retainers that won't crack, heavier axles, shift forks......
It's one thing to build something cool to look at. It's another entirely to make something that actually works. |

If that motor is bad in your 1282..... cheaper to rebuild it. Or find another motor. Are you sure it's bad and not just come unbolted?

Well..... if that's the case I think your going the wrong way. Cheaper to fix it that do what your doing. You sure it's the motor...... Seen more than one where the engine wasn't bolted down and created a knock.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
