Default Solenoid?????
Hi folks. Have a question concerning an electrical 'no start' situation. Tried to start my 1882 today - wouldn't turn over even when jumping. However, when I used a screwdriver across the solenoid posts it fired, started, and ran.
My question(s)___should I replace the solenoid? Or would you suggest looking elsewhere?

I am NOT mechanically inclined (as you can probably tell by this post).

Chances are it's your safety/neutral switch at your brake pedal.

Would my jumping it, as I did with the screwdriver, over-ride the safety neutral switch? While I'm thinking of it....seems there were no dash lights either.

Here is a simplified Start Circuit (properly color coded) for the 1882.

You can use a DVM to trace down the problem or take a jumper wire and jump out each device and connection until the solenoid energizes.

If the solenoid has 12vDC going to it, and it is properly grounded, and it doesn't energize, then the solenoid is bad.

Thanks for the help folks. After reading the replies I deduced, rightly or wrongly, it just might be the ignition switch. I went this route because I couldn't even begin to figure out which terminals throughout the schematics to test, or even jump. And the fact I had no lights - dash or head. So, anyway, I took the ignition switch out....some of the terminals were less than clean.....I cleaned them......put it back....THE TRACTOR NOW STARTS JUST FINE!!!!!

Now off to find a socket for the blade nuts.

I had this happen once. Turned out it was a bad fuse. Discovered it after I put in the brand new ingition switch.
