Default Opinion on a B&S V-Twin

Possibly looking for a mower to finish out the season. Any of you have an opinion on a Briggs 22 HP ELS V-Twin?

I'm not fond of B&S, but this one may be available within the price range.

Let me know...

Let me see if I understand what your planning on doing. I understand from one of your other posts that your 782 is currently down so now you plan on buying something with this B&S V-Twin to finish out the season. It looks like a Big box store Cub from the pic you posted. All I can say is from what I read in your other post that should be an easy fix but if you want to go this way it's your $$$$. I'm not a big fan of these cheap engines, heard to many bad things about them. The B&S Vanguards are great engines but this is not a Vanguard. Your call.

Gotta say I'm with Sam on this one.

You need a $3.00 roll pin and 15 minutes to change out that spirol pin. (Hour if you have problems.) Why on earth would you buy another mower? Unless you are just wanting an excuse to purchase another tractor.......

Yeah, you both are right. I don't want to get rid of the 782 yet.

It's just with the engine becoming loose (never happened to me before) and not knowing what complications that might present AND that it has over 2200 hours on it, I thought this might be time to consider something else.

Might have some time later this week to pull it in the garage, secure the engine, punch out and replace the spirol pin and be back in business.

Thanks for your opinions--that's why I asked for them.

The ELS extended life series engines have a poorly desined air filter housing and cover that over time warps and does not seal good and then dirt gets in the engine and can score up the piston rings and cylinder

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
